I use a GX-40D and it's great. 2 channels, high gain flexwave preamp, 40 watts stereo, 2x8', stereo chorus, expander, 31 built in digital reverb/delay settings via an Analog Devices chip including sdrawckab, stereo effects loop, footswitchable, headphone jack. What more do you want or need in a practice amp? No tubes to worry about or give you problems, no warming up or cooling down time.

Featuring Twin Crate Custom L 12' speakers, 120 watts RMS, the GX212 is a powerhouse of tone. Perfect for professional and practicing musicians in the market for an amp that provides power.

Only thing I don't like is the jumpy volume knob on the dirt channel; from off to way too loud in 1.5mm.I used to own two of the Ampeg VH-140C combos that metal heads on the HCAF have a hard-on for. I downsized to have more manageable volume in an apt. The Crate's flexwave five preamp is much higher gain than the Ampeg's and it's usable gain. The Ampeg turns to useless mush if you go past 6 or 7.I also used to own this amp big brother, the GX-140D, a great sounding high-gain amp with the same features. I much preferred it over the Ampeg VH-140C but it also suffers greatly from a jumpy volume knob. I just repaired a '95 Crate GX-212+ last night.

All four input jack pins had come loose from the (flimsy) PCB. This time I simply resoldered them (removed old solder first, of course); next time I'll replace that jack with a Switchcraft.I know it's a low-budget amp and that it's a bit older but WOW and YIKES was the build quality of this thing simply atrocious. NONE of the tiny mini-pots were mounted to chassis; the PCB was held in place by 2 screws and 4 plastic clips. Lots of spade connectors internally and the original wave soldering job was.poor. Plastic jacks with plastic nuts. Ugh.I can never recommend a Crate to anyone in good conscience unless the price is stupid low. The phrase 'planned obsolescence' immediately comes to mind.I wonder if they've gotten better or worse at this relative price point since then. Here is the pig in question (sans lipstick;-).

Click to expand.Quite a lot of their designs in the higher watt range of the GX-series are more or less similar to another. Farpoint spread 8 keygen crack 7. GFX was all the same but with DSP effects added in. So in essence, pretty much all of those are overlooked.

They all came from the same designing table. The GX-130C just gets quoted because Cannibal Corpse used it.G60GT and G80XLS were in their days a pretty standard selection for guitarists to take on tours as warm up amps. Malmsteen anyone? Plug in a good guitar and these amps will cop every tone from warm, jazzy cleans to early 1990's trash metal sound. If you can't get a good tone with these amps then you simply suck as a guitarist. Period. And they're ludicrously cheap. Then, stuff like the GT-series QuadraDrive amps seem to get no mention at all: Crate solid-state distortion coupled to tube distortion, coupled to tube+MOSFET hybrid power amps similar to those Ampeg SVT-PROs. These were how folks should have made hybrid amps, instead of just throwing in one 12AX7 gain stage and calling it a day.Crate has made a lot of wonderful stuff, and what's best, at pretty inexpensive price.

I constantly see their gear used by semi-professional bands. It's a shame to see them ridiculed by the corksniffers.SLM getting purchased by the LOUD Technologies was a pretty bad blow as about 90% of the key employees, many that had been with the company since its beginnings, ended up resigning or getting fired. It's pretty hard to recover from something like that, instead of just ending up rehashing old products.
