Sonar Instrument Definitions Korg
Sonar: Using Instrument Definition Files. To simplify working with them in Sonar, you can use Instrument Definition files (with an INS suffix) that specify the synth's (or effect's) presets and controllers. Upon loading the INS, that instrument definition becomes a part of Sonar. And, when you want to call up a preset. Instrument Definitions are sound lists for individual synthesizers. Rather than selecting Bank 1 - Patch 001 on your JV-1010 within Sonar, it will actually say '64 Note Piano' when you go to the patch pull down menu. They also make it easier to send MIDI bank change commands as every synth has its own way. Thanks for your kind words CPhoenix Really though I have to credit LMike for his pioneering work again, everything starts with a great idea. I could make improvements to mine, some possibilities are: 1) recall last selection 2) search on keyword 3) bookmark favourites.
Hi there,I'm new in the forum and in Ableton (I've recently bought Ableton live lite 8).I've been working many years with SONAR, but I think Ableton is more appropiated for my way of doing music (jamming with another gutarist)Sorry, a couple of questions for you experienced guys:1) How can I control from wihtin Ableton, an external MIDI instrument? (Korg Triton rack).I've been able to define a MIDI track and set the MIDI out port to control the Triton, but I wasn't able to change Triton patches from with Ableton (I was able to do it easily with SONAR). In fact, in SONAR (logic, and many others), I could define a text file, in which i could map the patch numbers with patch names so I could easily choose which instrument to use. Thanks in advance.Regards,Alberto. I'm pretty new to Ableton (first post!), though have a Triton Le and previously used Sonar as well. So maybe I can help, or maybe I can learn something here as wellI setup a default External Instrument device for my T.Le so I can always just drag and drop it to a midi track when needed and have the midi out/audio in/gain all pre configured. On my Korg Triton Le I had to set the 'GLOBAL-Pref-BANKMAP' to 'KORG'. After doing so, the Bank/Sub-Bank/Program selections in Ableton roughly correspond to the programs on my Triton Le and make selecting a program thru Ableton a LITTLE more logical if you know the Triton's program number, such as 'B038'.Why I say roughly: The Ableton Bank selection is irrelevant, the Ableton Sub-Bank selection (1,2,3,4.) corresponds to the Triton Bank (A,B,C,D.), and the Ableton Program selection (1,2,3,4.) corresponds to the Triton Program PLUS 1 (000, 001, 002, 003.).

So B038: Garage PWM on my Triton corresponds to Bank:x/Sub-Bank:2/Program:39 in Ableton, if that makes any sense.I've been making due with this for now, though maybe I'm missing something obvious. I did love in Sonar the ability to select my T.Le's programs by name, eliminating this number game. That would be lovely here as well - I'm not sure if it's available in Ableton though - not that I've seen.Though now that I think of it, more often than not, I'm selecting my desired instrument via my T.Le itself, since I'm playing there, and Ableton's clip Bank/Sub-Bank/Program selections update accordingly, so hasn't been too much of an issue for me, too many other great things to distract I understand why that might not be as convenient if you are using a rack module Triton though.Hope something there helps, let me know if you find anything in regards to text selection.
Hey, could someone help me?I have and quite good sound card. My KORG is kind of cool stuff but it has not very much instruments or sounds. So I guess my problem could be solved with different instrument definition. But there is another problem - I think the cakewalk doesn't use them, but still uses KORG's sounds. I can't use drumsets (like I do on other synthesizers which are made for music making on different programs) and other stuff.Sorry that I talk incoherent, but It's kind of hard to tell the problem, if I don't understand it.
